OSX Mac - Drag 'n Drop Printing from your Dock

Have you ever wanted to print out a quick copy of a file?  You have to find the file, open the program, open the file and then print the file.  Wouldn’t it be nice if you could print a file without having to go through all those steps?  With this pro tip you can make printing documents as easy as “drag and drop”.

When you’re printing, the printer icon appears in your dock, but after the job is completed the icon disappears. We need the printer icon to stay in the dock, even when the printer is not being used.  Follow these steps to add the printer to your dock.
1. Select the menu option  > System Preferences
2. Click on the “Print & Scan” icon
3. Select your printer in the left hand column
4. Click the “Open Print Queue” button.
5. The Printer will now show on the Dock
6. Click and hold on the Printer icon on the dock until a pop menu appears.
7. Select the menu option Options > Keep In Dock.

Now instead of printing an item the traditional way just grab whatever needs to be printed with your mouse and drag it over the printer icon in your dock, drop the documents and it will automatically start printing. You can print a wide variety of documents this way including pictures and word processing files. The only downside to this method of printing is the printer option window doesn’t display, so changes like multiple copies and a range of pages can not be made.
