Apple introduces new iPad with Apple Pencil support

6th-generation-iPadSo why do we need another iPad® when there’s already small-medium-large out there in about 100 configurations?

Apple® is glad you asked that question.

The new iPad is different, is more capable and may just be a better value than any iPad model currently available.

To the untrained eye, the new sixth-generation iPad is essentially the same as the fifth-gen model it replaces. The 9.7-inch form factor, the aluminum unibody construction, the silver-grey-gold color options, the existing accessories and even the opening price point remains the same — the 32GB model starts at $329.
What sets the new iPad apart is its support for the wildly popular Apple Pencil®, previously teamed only with the more costly iPad Pro® line. Apple Pencil delivers a remarkably fluid and natural drawing experience. The stylus gives users the ability to be more creative and productive, from sketching ideas to jotting down handwritten notes to marking up screenshots. Because who doesn’t love drawing a mustache on the Mona Lisa?

The new iPad empowers the $99 Apple Pencil thanks to a high-resolution touch sensor in its Retina® screen and palm-rejection technology that makes it possible to rest your hand on the screen while you use it. As with the iPad Pro, Apple Pencil is sensitive to pressure and tilt so users can vary line weight and shading — much like using a traditional pencil. As a tool for both creativity and productivity, Apple Pencil is an absolute game changer.

This iPad also has the power of the A10 Fusion chip (with 64-bit desktop-class architecture), a brilliant Retina display and advanced cameras and sensors that help deliver immersive augmented reality (AR) experiences. Plus, with its onboard gyroscope and accelerometer for accurate motion tracking, the new iPad is designed to support the next generation of AR apps.

iOS 11 also introduces powerful new features for iPad. The Dock provides quick access to frequently used apps and documents from any screen, and makes it easier to multitask with Split View and Slide Over. Drag and Drop makes moving images, text and files between apps easier than ever. The Files app provides a central place to access and organize files no matter where they are located — on iPad or on the cloud with built-in support for iCloud Drive® and providers like Box, Dropbox and others.

With the new iPad introduction, Apple also released new versions of its iWork® apps. Now users can draw, sketch and write with Apple Pencil within the Pages®, Numbers® and Keynote® apps — all available for free in the App Store®. Plus, Apple’s Smart Annotation for Pages is a new tool that enables comments and proofing marks to anchor dynamically to text and remain there even as the document changes.
