iTunes gets a Makeover

Apple’s newest version of iTunes has a whole new look and several slick new features. The most noticeable change is the user interface. The old list browser has been replaced with a cleaner and more intuitive interface, which defaults to a view called Albums. It shows the contents of your entire library as album snapshots. This is a huge improvement because it allows you to drill down on a particular album or video without having to return to the old list screen time and time again.

You can also view your iTunes library content by Songs, Artists, Genres, Videos or Playlists. If you really liked the old list view, use the Songs tab. You’ll see an alphabetical list of your library there that is very similar to the previous version of iTunes.
One new feature of iTunes11 is the new MiniPlayer. You’ll find it at the top of your iTunes screen. It’s an updated feature that allows you to control the music you are playing without returning to your library. The MiniPlayer displays whatever you are currently playing plus gives you controls for seeing and adding to the playlist you are currently playing. The Up Next option in MiniPlayer lets you see which songs are playing soon or search your collection and choose a different song to add to your Up Next list. If you want to have your MiniPlayer open all the time choose iTunes > Preferences > Advanced, then check Keep MiniPlayer window on top of all other windows.

Another new feature of iTunes 11 is the integration with iCloud. We particularly like the new “pause” feature that allows you to start a movie, TV show, podcast, iTunes U lesson, or audiobook on one device, pause it anytime and start it later on another device. iCloud remembers right where you left off.
