iOS8 Preview - Coming this Fall

June’s announcement of iOS 8 is full of beautiful new features. Apple’s aim for the new release is to make the interface feel more natural. Every upgrade and new feature has a purpose and is designed to enhance the user’s experience. With changes to the keyboard, pictures, and much more, iOS 8 is poised to be the best mobile operating system yet. Family Sharing, Messages, and Health are three new features and upgrades that make iOS 8 truly spectacular.
Sharing Apps, iTunes, movies and TV shows purchased on your devices with family members who don’t use the same Apple ID is currently impossible, but Family Sharing makes it a reality. After you set up Family Sharing, all of your family members can have access to each others downloads without needing each Apple ID or password. Family Sharing also integrates features such as a Family Photo Stream that allows everyone to share their favorite memories and a family calendar that keeps everyone on the same page. One of the coolest features of Family Sharing is the ability to set parental permissions. All family members can share one credit card. When a child wishes to purchase something in the App Store or iTunes, they have to request permission. The parents then have the ability to grant or deny. Family Sharing offers convenient new features, allowing families to stay more connected than ever.

Messages is probably the app that gets the most use. Now with several new ways to communicate, it will be used even more. iOS 8 introduces a record button right in the Messages app that allows you to record your voice or what you’re hearing. To listen to an audio recording, just hold your iPhone up to your ear like you’re taking a phone call or hit the play button. Along with audio integration, the new Messages app reduces the time it takes to send a video and makes it so the recipient can see what you’re seeing, almost as you see it.

We’ve all gotten a little lost in group messages on occasion. iOS 8 allows you to title group messages, take yourself out of the thread, and turn on Do Not Disturb so that you can view the messages when you have the time. When asked the question, “Where are you?”, now you can share your exact location in a message thread to answer the question quickly, easily, and with the most accuracy. With the overhaul of Messages, iOS 8 helps users stay connected in more intuitive ways.

The new Health app collects all of your fitness and health information from your favorite apps and keeps it in one convenient location. The dashboard feature allows you to see your health at a glance, with summaries of calories burned, sleep, and heart rate. Create an emergency medical ID card that contains information such as allergies, blood type, and emergency contacts, all available from the lock screen. HealthKit allows developers to design apps that access your information in Health, allowing everything to work smarter for you.

With all of the new features included in iOS 8, we can’t wait for its release in the fall. For questions about upgrading and for all of your Apple needs, contact us at support@cranstonit.com.
