iOS 12 - improves performance, fosters family fun

iOS 12 enables new user experiences that just weren’t possible before, according to Apple, as well as makes everyday tasks faster, more responsive and just plain fun.

But let’s start here. The mission of the latest version of the world’s most advanced mobile operating system is to improve performance, especially that of its older iPhone® and iPad® devices. That’s why iOS 12 has been designed to make routine iPhone and iPad tasks faster and more responsive with performance improvements across the system. For example, the camera launches up to 70 percent faster, the keyboard appears up to 50 percent faster and typing is more responsive. Even while multi-tasking, apps can launch up to twice as fast. From iPhone 5s, introduced in 2013, to the most advanced iPhone X, iOS 12 brings performance improvements to more devices than any previous version.

Now let’s examine the most compelling new features of iOS 12.
Screen Time helps customers and families understand and take control of the time they spend interacting with their iOS devices. Screen Time, for example, shows how often you use your iOS devices and how much time you spend in different apps. It also lets you set daily time limits for specific apps, so you can make sure you don’t spend too much time in Facebook, for instance. Even better, you can set such limits for your children’s devices via Family Sharing.

Another tool for managing device time is the new mode set in Do Not Disturb. One mode can be automatically set based on a specified time, location or action, while another helps people (kids?) get a better night’s sleep by dimming the display and hiding all notifications on the lock screen until prompted in the morning. Do Not Disturb has become a more appealing feature because you don’t need to worry about accidentally leaving it on for too long — just set it and forget it.

Now FaceTime® is no longer limited to one-on-one engagements. The app that has changed the way we communicate and share important moments can now include up to 32 people in a single conversation. With Group FaceTime, participants can be added at any time, join later if the conversation is still active and choose to join using video or audio from an iPhone, iPad or Mac® — or even participate using FaceTime audio from Apple Watch®.
