Apple Previews Next Operating System for Mac - macOS Sierra

macOS-Sierra

Apple has announced a name change for its Mac operating system that reflects more than just a change of moniker. macOS Sierra, previously known as OS X, is not only a move by the tech giant to unify operating system names across its product lines, but also introduces some of the functionality of iOS to the Mac.

One of the chief features now available on the Mac through macOS Sierra is Apple’s popular personal assistant, Siri. All of Siri’s handy features that you’ve become used to on iOS will now be available on the Mac, along with some brand new ways to help you with the actions specific to your desktop. For instance, you can easily and quickly search for documents, images and other information simply by asking Siri, then drag the results right to a window on your desktop. You can also ask Siri to play music, add an event to your calendar, or even send an email for you. Basically, just ask Siri to do almost anything you might have previously done via keyboard and mouse, and most likely Siri will handle the task.

Photos has undergone some major improvements for macOS Sierra with advanced facial recognition and added functionality that lets you display all your photos on a world map based on the location where the photos were taken. Want to easily find photos from all your family camping trips or birthday parties? The app will group photos based on time, location, people or objects in them.

Mac users who own multiple devices – most of us – will enjoy the new Universal Clipboard feature that lets you copy and paste images, video and text from one device to another. Your devices now have even more ability to “talk” to each other.

Named after the Sierra Nevada mountain range that runs along the eastern edge of California, macOS Sierra is expected to be released this fall.
