iCloud Family Sharing Review

We use our Apple devices for everything. From watching movies, listening to music, staying organized with calendars and reminders, and keeping connected; our Apple devices are powerful tools. Often there is a need to share all of this important information with those who are the most important to us, our families. iOS 8 has created a solution that will change the way you and your family interact digitally, Family Share. Family Share lets you sync up to six individual Apple IDs and share App Store purchases, photos, calendars, and much more.
When you set up Family Share, you automatically gain access to purchases everyone has made in the App Store and iTunes. Never again will you have to make multiple purchases for everyone in your family. Families can provide one credit card for payment for those purchases. Parents can also set up a feature that prompts kids to “ask for permission” before making purchases. Parents can okay or deny access right from their own device, ensuring control over what is being downloaded on their child’s device.

We use our iPhones and iPads for capturing special moments. Family Share establishes a shared photo album that allows everyone in your family to add photos, videos, and then like and comment on its contents.

It can be hard to keep everyone organized and informed about daily schedules, but that task just got a whole lot easier. A shared family calendar keeps everyone on the same page, allowing all members to add events, send reminders, and provide specific information such as locations and times. Keeping everyone organized and knowing where everyone is go hand-in-hand. Use Find My Friends and Location Share to keep track of everyone’s location. Family Share is also integrated into Find My iPhone, allowing family members to have access to everyone’s device location.

To set up Family Sharing, first ensure that all prospective members have upgraded their devices to iOS 8. One adult member will be the “organizer” and invite others to the account. Go to iCloud in settings, tap Family Share, and then follow the prompts to get started. For more information on Family Sharing and for all of your Apple needs, contact us at support@cranstonit.com.
