Apple Gets Into the Groove with New Music Service

iTunes users know they have virtually an entire world of music available at their fingertips. Think of just about any artist and song and it’s likely you can find, purchase, and download it to your device from the iTunes store. From there you can create music playlists to suit your mood or activity.

But what if you want to be a little more spontaneous than that and listen to something new based on your preferences and tastes? What if you didn’t have to purchase songs individually, but could access a music library of over 30 million (yes, million) tunes and stream music with help from your own personal music concierge? These “what if” scenarios are what Apple offers with its new Apple Music service.
Part international radio station and part music concierge, Apple Music offers users a streaming music experience that it hopes will best the competition (industry powerhouse Spotify). Though its feature set is similar to other streaming music services, Apple Music makes it easy to incorporate your existing iTunes song list by automatically adding any tunes you’ve downloaded or ripped from CDs. With the help of music experts from around the world, the service aims to create custom playlists that improve the more you use it and are based on your personal preferences.

Apple Music also features a worldwide live radio station that broadcasts 24/7 as Beats 1. The station features renowned DJs in New York, London, and Los Angeles offering not only music, but also interviews, guest hosts and news.

Arguably the best and most unique feature of the new service is Apple Music Connect . This social media-type section enables artists to interact with fans and share lyrics, photos, rehearsal videos, or anything else they want. Artists can even release singles via their iPhone and reply to fan comments.

Apple is currently offering a free 3-month trial membership for Apple Music. After the trial, the cost is $9.99/month for a single subscription or $14.99/month for a family subscription for up to 6 users. Apple Music is available on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, and PC.
