The new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus were released this month with more buzz about what the phones do not have than what they include. That’s unfortunate, because the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus include some noteworthy additions.

What’s causing all the commotion?

The phones do not include a headphone jack.

What?! How will we listen to our tunes?

While the traditional headphone jack has disappeared, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus come with headphones that connect via a lightening jack at the bottom of the phone. That’s the same connector you use to plug your charger into the phone. Plug them in and you’re in business. Apple has also included an adapter that easily converts traditional 3.5 mm headphones into lightening headphones.

In other words, the headphone thing just isn’t that big of a deal.

Without the headphone jack taking up extra space on the bottom of the phone, Apple was able to add additional speaker grills. The new phones feature stereo speakers that deliver two times the audio output of the iPhone 6S.

The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are water- and dust-resistant. If you should happen to drop your phone in water or spill liquid on it, you won’t have to worry. It’s water resistant to up to 1 meter for about 30 minutes.

The home button on the new phones has changed. It’s now pressure sensitive and works in tandem with the new Taptic Engine. It doesn’t actually push in like it used to, but uses haptic feedback along with the fingerprint sensor and touch ID to operate.

One of the most significant improvements can be found on the iPhone 7 Plus which features dual 12MP cameras – one is a telephoto lens with 2X optical zoom and the other is a regular camera. The iPhone 7 does not have the dual cameras, but offers optical image stabilization, an ƒ/1.8 aperture, and a six-element lens that makes it easier to shoot photos and videos in low light. Both phones also feature a new front facing 7MP selfie camera.

As with all new iPhone releases, the processor is faster than previous phones and battery life is improved.

iPhone 7 and 7 Plus feature the iOS 10 operating system. Both models are available in jet black, black, silver, gold, and rose gold and 32GB, 128GB, or 256GB capacity. Price starts at $649. Screen size on the iPhone 7 is 4.7” and 5.5” on the iPhone 7 Plus.
