AirDrop - Magical Sharing from your mobile device and computer

AirDrop-File-Sharing
If you’re old enough, you might remember a skit the late, great nighttime talk show host Johnny Carson used to do where he played an mystic from the East who could “divine” answers to questions placed in a sealed envelope. Carnac the Magnificent would simply hold the unopened envelope to his head and recite the answer before opening the envelope to reveal the question, almost as if the envelope imparted the information to him.

Though the skit was comical in nature, the concept that information can be shared simply by touching an object was kind of cool. Maybe that’s what the creators of the AirDrop had in mind when they came up with this file and content sharing app for devices using iOS 7 or later and Macs with OS X Yosemite or later. AirDrop lets you share photos, files, web sites, contacts, and more with other Apple devices nearby. No need for email or text message attachments, with this app all you have to do is press Share.
To share content, you’ll need to turn on wifi and Bluetooth, then open the app and choose what and with whom you want to share. That person will receive an alert with a preview of what you want to share and then choose whether to accept. Abracadabra, alakazam, your content is shared.

Let's explore a real life example of when AirDrop might be useful. Say you are at a party and your friend is complaining that they can't find a good company to help them with their IT problems. You, of course, know a great company so you open Contacts and tap on CranstonIT. You then tap “Share Contact.” At the top of the Share dialog you will see other people near you that also have AirDrop. Tap on your friend's name and just like magic they receive our contact information.

Devices that offer AirDrop include just about any iOS device that is running iOS 7 or later. To check if your device can use AirDrop, open Control Center by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. If AirDrop is in Control Center you're all set. Any Mac with a model year 2011 and running Yosemite or later can use AirDrop. Older Macs, if they are running Yosemite, may all also be able to use AirDrop. To find out for sure, choose the Go Menu in the Finder on your Mac. If you see AirDrop as an option, you are good to go. The person you want to share with will also need to have one of these models.

It might not be magic, but AirDrop makes sharing as easy as 1-2-3. Even Carnac the Magnificent couldn’t do it any better. For help with AirDrop and all your Apple products, devices and systems contact us at 888-813-5558 or support@cranstoninc.com.
